The Riżorsi Agrikoli Malta Agency performs a wide range of functions aimed at strengthening Malta’s agricultural sector and ensuring the sustainable use of agricultural resources. These include:
  • Land Registration and Management: Establishing and maintaining a national register of agricultural land ownership and usage, including leased, self-cultivated, and transferred land, to ensure transparency and responsible governance.
  • Land Acquisition and Allocation: Acquiring agricultural land offered for sale and reallocating it to genuine farmers, with a focus on supporting new entrants and young farmers seeking to enter the sector.
  • Policy Implementation and Advisory Role: Implementing government policies and regulations related to agricultural resources and advising the Minister on matters concerning the regulation and management of agricultural land and bioresources.
  • Project and Scheme Administration: Designing, implementing, and managing projects and schemes that support the development and sustainable management of agricultural land and water resources.
  • Support and Incentives: Facilitating access to funding and support initiatives for farmers and establishing incentive measures for landowners and tenants to promote responsible land use and cultivation.
  • Agricultural Waste and Bioresource Management: Updating and coordinating the Agricultural Waste Management Plan and ensuring the sustainable registration and management of agricultural bioresources.
  • Sectoral Mediation and Facilitation: Acting as an intermediary between landowners and farmers to facilitate land access, especially for genuine and young farmers, and promoting collaboration within the sector.
